For months on end, several names of exciting and highly rated players have been linked to our club even before we could open any negotiations. Today we are pleased to present such players who have duly indicated their willingness to join the formidable family of Amakhosi at Naturena.
Their acquisition follows a series of stringent discussion between the Management of Kaizer Chiefs and its Technical Team. A closer look into our previous season obviously reflects a greater need in specific departments on the playing field. In an attempt to address this, we felt it necessary to consider a holistic approach to balance our squad by bringing a minefield of talent and experience.
Today we are pleased to present Mr. Shaun Bartlett, a player that boasts a wealth of international experience after a successful campaign in the highly prestigious English Premier League. The former South African National team Captain boasts 72 appearances and a record 28 goals.
We are also excited to present Mr. Siyabonga Nkosi who has set the soccer scene alight by featuring brilliantly for Bloemfontein Celtic. With a great future and a wealth of talent, Siyabonga’s sharpness has seen him gaining selection into the National Team during the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
Included also is Mr. Papi Zothwane, an exciting and attacking midfielder whose influence has had a great impact at Golden Arrows. He brings with him a great wealth of talent and a potential flair that fits in with our glamorous style.
We also recognised several challenges around the present squad after extensive consultation with the Technical Team. Inevitably, the start of a new season always provides players an opportunity to seek greener pastures from other clubs. We have already released Mr. Bevan Fransman and Mr. Tladi Mathibe to Moroka Swallows in a move that will make them realise their potential. We are currently in negotiation with several teams that have approached us for the services of some of our players to keep them active in competitive soccer.
The Technical Team anticipates that the new acquisitions will consolidate efforts to keep an exciting style of play that Amakhosi is reputed to have showcased since inception. A new look Amakhosi is therefore poised to spell fear into its opposition by retaining its pedigree as the number one team in the country.
An elated Coach Ernst Middendorp could not hide his excitement by stating that; “Through trial and error, I have learnt that the strong Kaizer Chiefs brand does not settle for less when it comes to results in order to meet the expectations of their many passionate supporters. I am therefore pleased that we have assembled a strong squad that will sustain the glamour and the edge of a winning team”.
The Amakhosi’s new acquisition are also faced with a formidable task of working hard to win and gain respect from their colleagues. The Team Manager, Bobby Motaung said; “this is necessary to keep our players sharp and more focussed to retain their jerseys in order to boost their morale throughout the season. I am therefore happy that this internal competition will keep the Technical Team at its edge and hopefully be translated into positive results that we anticipate for the new season”.
The next season is obviously looking well for Chiefs. The 2006 ABSA Cup Champions will most definitely stage a formidable challenge to regain the League Championship and claim their favourite pole position as the most exciting and feared team in the new season.
