The transfer results from a grueling month-long period of assessment as the Amakhosi prepared for the season ahead. Team Manager Bobby Motaung described the move as a bold decision by the Technical Team after carefully assessing the team’s requirements and concluding its transfer list of players including; Emmanuel Ngobese, Serge Djiehoua, Patrick Mayo, Gert Schalkwyk, David Radebe, and Siphiwe Mkhonza.
This followed intense discussion between Management and the Technical Team with parties agreeing to settle for nothing except results-oriented performance from remaining players. According to the Chairman, all players were informed that the pre-season preparations would be used for assessment with each being given a fair chance to convince the Technical Team of their inclusion in the team.
“We are satisfied with our list and wish the players the best for the future. The honours lies with the remaining to work hard as we proceed with our mission to restore the pride of Amakhosi,” said the Chairman.
For the past two seasons, the Amakhosi has been barely convincing in their performance and the rung changes were evident of management’s determination to correct the situation. The Technical Team felt it was better to trim the squad and create opportunities for those players to express their talents elsewhere.
Team Manager further expressed his appreciation of the players’ contribution but explained that it was important for Kaizer Chiefs to embark on such a process to realistically address the challenges of the previous two seasons.
“Whilst it was expected of us to effect a complete overhaul, it was inconceivable to rid ourselves off the entire squad considering the balance we wanted to maintain. We are thus satisfied that the process has opened an opportunity for us to consider many options in terms of player acquisitions and more faces would soon be announced,” declared Bobby.
The Amakhosi would continue the search for quality players and scan their Youth Development Programme to bolster prospects of challenging for top honours. Mokete Tsotetsi who has been given a three-year contract from Jomo Cosmos has already debuted as defender in the Telkom Charity. The gentle Jonathan Quartey from Ghana secured his future by signing a three-year contract after a sterling performance in Mafikeng.
The transfer and acquisition of players sets the team on a determined cause to stage a formidable challenge for the league and to regain all the silverware that have since left their display.
