Kaizer Chiefs strolled to a 6-2 victory on Wednesday afternoon against the Madagascan national team at the Eldorado Park Stadium.
Chiefs raced to a 2-0 lead early in the first half but saw their early advantage wiped off when the Madagascan’s grabbed two goals in eleven minutes towards the end of the first half.
The Amakhosi took an early lead when Serge Djiehoua was put through on goal by David Radebe, and was able to easily beat the keeper and put Chiefs a goal up.
Five minutes after that and Chiefs doubled their advantage when Djiehoua was up-ended by the Madagascan keeper, and David Radebe came to the fore as he converted the ensuing penalty kick.
Chiefs seemed to take their foot of the gas thereafter and the Madagascan’s were able to fight their way back into the game, and had even worked themselves onto a level footing with Chiefs at the half time break.
Four second half goals from Scara Ngobese, Louis Agyemang, Sihle Mbambo and Arthur Zwane ensured that the margin of victory was an emphatic one.
It all began for Chiefs in the second minute when captain for the day David Radebe threaded a neat pass to Serge Djiehoua, who picked up the ball and marched past the defense and slotted the ball past the outstretched right arm of the goalkeeper.
A couple of minutes had gone past and David Radebe again sent Djiehoua on his way to goal, this time Djiehoua again got the ball past the keeper, but as he tried to round him, he was launched into the air by the stranded keeper and the referee duly pointed to the penalty spot. David Radebe assumed the responsibility and knocked the ball low to the right of the goalie, and even though the keeper guessed correctly, Radebe was able to get the ball into the back of the net.
Radebe turned from hero to villain on the half hour mark when he gave away a free kick a few meters into the Chiefs half. The visitors took the set piece quickly as Ali Mohammad played the ball forward to Ramindamaun who in turn set up Nomenjanahavy who hit the ball sweetly with the outside of his boot, and it skimmed off the ground and spun along the surface as it rolled past Fernandez and brought the Madagascan’s back into the match.
As half time approached, Madagascar got the equalizer they had been looking for when Carlos Dimitri turned Patrick Mayo and got the ball to Nomenjanahavy who beat Fernandez from close range to draw level.
It was a very different looking Kaizer Chiefs who took the field in the second half as Kosta Papic made ten changes to his team. It took the new boys some time to get going but when they did the Madagascan’s were left taking up the role of pedestrians.
It all began with twenty two minutes to go with Arthur Zwane the Chief catalyst, storming down the right and laying the ball off to Scara Ngobese who could not miss from only a few yards out and walked the ball home.
In the seventy-fifth minute, Itumeleng Khune sent a long ball up front, which Rotson Kilambe rose to and flicked in the direction of Louis Agyemang who chased the ball and thought off his feet as he lobbed the ball over the on rushing keeper to score Chiefs fourth goal of the game.
Inside the last ten minutes The Amakhosi found the back of the net two more times. The first came in the 81st minute when Arthur Zwane knocked in a corner from the right, and as the ball came in, the keeper failed to connect with the ball and it floated beyond him and onto the head of Sihle Mbambo lurking at the far post. His downward header bounced over the Madagascan defender on the line and over the line for goal number five!
Arthur Zwane rounded off a perfect afternoon for Chiefs and himself as he grabbed The Amakhosi’s sixth goal of the game with four minutes of normal time left. Rotson Kilambe won a corner on the left, which Scara Ngobese floated to perfection into the danger zone and Arthur Zwane rose to meet the ball and headed it back across the goal and over the goal keeper to make it half a dozen goals on the day for Chiefs.
