Playing in their 450th PSL game The Amakhosi saw off defending League Champions SuperSport United 2-0 at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium in Attridgeville on Sunday afternoon.



Knowledge Musona scored Chiefs first goal in the 41st minute, substitute Siyabulela Songwiqi struck a second for The Amakhosi in the 86th minute. Chiefs were reduced to ten men in the second half with the dismissal of Kaizer Motaung Junior in the 56th minute.



SuperSport conjured up the first chance of the match after twelve minutes, Jabulani Maluleke from the right edge of the Chiefs 18 yard area lifted the towards Fikru Lemasse who rose to head the ball goal wards.



Amakhosi keeper Itumeleng Khune did well to get down and blocked the ball as it fell in front of him. After some good build up work from Mthokozisi Yende after 19 minutes Abia Nale was set free on the right of the United penalty area by Josta Dladla he laid the ball up to Musona who blazed it over the bar from close range.



Chiefs were being troubled by the wing play of SuperSport and it took some good work by Khune to cut out Laffor’s cross from the right, and Brent Carelse came clattering into him, this happening on 28 minutes.



SuperSport quickly countered Chiefs in the 32nd minute a long ball from the centre of midfield picked out Carlese on the left, he allowed the ball to bounce in front of him before hitting it towards goal on the half volley.



Khune though matched the shot with a sublime stop as he dived at full length to his right turning the ball which bounced just in front of him round his post for a corner. Five minutes before half time Musona tested Wayne Brown with an effort at goal from close range the SuperSport keeper did well to stay his ground and stopped the ball.



Two minutes later though Brown would be beaten, Yende lifted the ball over United defender Morgan Gould with a with a delicate chip the home team defence stood still waiting for an offside call it did not come. Musona latched onto the ball and struck it sweetly past Brown to give Chiefs the lead heading into the break.



A minute after the restart Jambo was unable to head clear Laffor’s cross from the right, the ball fell to Maluleke who hit it across goal his effort went inches wide of Khune’s right hand post.



Chiefs were reduced to ten men on 56 minutes when Kaizer Motaung Junior was shown a straight red card for clashing with United keeper Brown, the Amakhosi striker was provacated by Brown who escaped punishment for his part in the incident.



Khune made an important save from Laffor on the hour mark and on the counter attack Abian Nale who was put into space with a ball over the top of the defence, blazed his effort from around 18 yards over the goal.



With Chiefs down to ten men SuperSport began trying their luck from range it took two great saves from Khune to deny them getting level, on 64 minutes he got down to stop a well hit shot from around 20 yards by Laffor.



Five minutes later Thandani Tshumayelo went for goal from a similar distance Khune again dived to his right to make another crucial save.



Chiefs made certain of the points six minutes from time when they scored a second goal, Musona with a slick pass sent Substitute Siyabulela Songwiqi in the clear he sped past Ntshumayelo and hit the ball past brown to double Chiefs lead.



The Amakhosi held on amidst driving raining in six added minutes of referees optional time to win against SuperSport for the first time in two in league action, Chiefs move into second place on the league table.
