Kaizer Chiefs have signed centre back Austin Thabani Dube from Glad Africa Championship side, Richards Bay FC, on a three year deal with an option to extend for a further two years.
Dube joins Chiefs having been part of the South Africa squad that won the recent 2021 COSAFA Cup which took place in Qeberha (formerly Port Elizabeth )in South Africa.
He featured prominently for Bafana Bafana, playing in all six games including the final against guest side Senegal, which Bafana Bafana won on penalties.
Dube who started his career at Witbank Aces was a Nedbank Cup winner with TS Galaxy in 2019 and is a highly experienced defender.
He was at Richards Bay last season where he faced Chiefs in the Nedbank Cup in a round of 32 clash, opening the scoring for Richards Bay as they earned a surprise 2-1 win.
He featured in 28 of Richards Bay’s league games during the regular season in 2020-21 as they ended the campaign in third place and qualified for the PSL Promotion Relegation Play-offs, but were unable to win promotion to the top flight.
He started all 28 of the league games he played in during the 2020-21 campaign for Richards Bay and played in four more games in the Nedbank Cup, including a preliminary round game against the University of Pretoria, making three starts in the tournament and one substitute appearance as they reached the quarter finals.
Kaizer Chiefs would like to welcome Dube to the Amakhosi family and are confident he will be a positive acquisition for the club.
