A week after resuming pre-season training, the Amakhosi have shifted base as well as the focus of their training system and schedule.
While the first week of the Kaizer Chiefs first team's return to pre-season training saw them undergo a series of medical and fitness tests, the coming week will see their on field activities step up a level.
On Sunday Chiefs moved to the High Performance Centre at the University of Pretoria to begin the football specific side of their pre-season programme.
Amakhosi coach Vladimir Vermezovic let kaizerchiefs.com in on what the teams programme looks like in the coming days.
As he said, “last week we conducted various physical and medical tests, from today we begin training at the High Performance centre here in Tshwane (Pretoria).
The idea is for us to train twice a day, we plan to break up our session and concentrate on strength training as well as tactical and technical training.”
Vermezovic is hoping to keep his team in the nation’s capital for the next ten days of this he said, “we will be based at the high performance centre until the 13th or 14th of July and then we will head to Polokwane to prepare for our first Vodacom Challenge game against Tottenham Hotspurs on the 16th.”
According to Vermezovic he is channelling his thoughts and energy into the pre-season programme and is as yet not thinking about the 2011 – 2012 season which kicks off in August.
“At the moment my focus is on the pre-season and to ensure that our training is effective as possible during this time, things are different this time compared to last season because we have had a one and a half month break which is good for the players.”
Part of his pre-season plan is to integrate his new recruits into the team.
The Chiefs coach also let in on his views of his off season purchases as he went on to say of them.
“All of the players who we bought Keegan Ritchie, Tefu Mashamaite, Lehlohonolo Majoro and Brent Lawler it was my wish to sign them. I also feel that Brent can produce a surprise in the PSL; these are players that I wanted and felt that they can be valuable acquisitions for the club.
Thanks to our football manager Bobby Motaung for going out into the market place and bringing in these players to the club, with the possible departure of Knowledge Musona we will look for another striker.”
