Amakhosi time on hands to mend the wounded

After their bruising Telkom Knock Out Cup last sixteen game against Moroka Swallows last Saturday, Chiefs have come out of the game with a number of casualties, but with almost three weeks of rest between the Swallows game and Chiefs next match on the 21st October against Platinum Stars.



Amakhosi physiotherapist David Milner believes that the club have been afforded sufficient time to have an almost full-strength squad to chose from ahead of their visit to Rustenburg later in the month.





Quartey injury update




The Amakhosi’s tall and sturdy Ghanaian central defender, Jonathan Quartey who it was feared had injured his hip during the grueling penalty shoot out win over Swallows, under went a scan early in the week on his hip. After he was given the all clear in the scan, he was still in pain and a further scan revealed that he had also taken a knock to the groin. According to Milner, Quartey should resume training on the 15th October.



“Jonathan from Friday has been given ten days to rest and recover he will resume training in the week building up to the Stars game”.





Knee issue for Sibeko




The knee problems, which kept him out of Chiefs game against SuperSport United on the 16th September, although he started in The Amakhosi’s following two matches against Ajax in the league and Moroka Swallows in the Telkom Cup. Have returned to lay Chiefs diminutive midfielder Gerald Sibeko out of active duty for the past week, as he comes to grips with a medial collateral ligament injury.



Sibeko should according to the Chiefs medical staff resume training in around two weeks time, depending on his progress a decision will be taken closer to the time as to whether or not he will be able to play in the game against Stars on the 21st of October.



Hat trick of injuries




Striker Shaun Bartlett completes the line up of players carrying injuries from the Swallows encounter, the player who skippered The Amakhosi during their Telkom Knock out cup win against The Birds is at pains to fight his way past a quadriceps strain. The diagnosis for Bartlett who notched up his second goal of the season against Swallows is that he will miss the next week of training, but is expected to recover in time to face Stars.
