Fans of the Amakhosi’s Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates and their Gauteng foes Mamelodi Sundowns will be rooting for a Chiefs win when they host Ajax Cape Town in an Absa Premiership match at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.



Heading into Saturday’s penultimate game of the season Chiefs have an outside slim mathematical chance of winning the title, while Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns are chasing Ajax who are currently three points clear of the Buccaneers at the top of the table.

Pirates and Sundowns are in need of a favour from Chiefs in the form of an Amakhosi win, which will halt Ajax in their title tracks. For Chiefs the incentives to defeat the Urban Warriors are many particularly given the fact that they would like to end off the season with a string of victories.

Recent History



Chiefs have held sway against the Urban Warriors over the last couple of seasons, winning at least one of the two league encounters contested by the teams since the 2006 – 2007 season. Last season the Amakhosi did the double over Ajax, but lost the earlier encounter against Ajax between the sides this sesaon, Chiefs have only once previously lost home and away to Ajax in the same season which was back in the 1999 – 2000 campaign.

The Amakhosi also have a final opportunity to earn a win over a team from Cape Town, having lost three games and drawn two in their five games against Cape Town base sides in league action this season.

Current Form



Ajax are one of the form teams in the league at the moment and have won four of their last five games, they come into the game against Chiefs on the back of a win against Amazulu. Ajax have not had as much luck on the road theis seasons, from their fourteen away games the Urban Warriors have picked up just 22 points in comparisons to the 37 they have won at home.



Chiefs loss to Sundowns in the league was their first in fourteen games and their inaugural loss in the second round of league fixtures, the Amakhosi held sway against Sundowns in their last game before going down 2-0. Prior to the loss against the Brazilians Chiefs had won back to back league matches against Mpumalanga Black Aces and SuperSport United.



Amakhosi striker Knowledge Musona will be keen to end the season on a high currently the Zimbabwean hit man has a total tally of 13 goals in the league this season and is tied with Katlego Mphela at the top of the goal scorers charts. He will be looking to get amongst the goals against the Urban Warriors on Saturday.
