Saturday, 07 January 2012 will see Kaizer Chiefs turning 42 having founded on the same date in 1970 by the current Executive Chairman, Kaizer Motaung and his friends.
The Club formed at the height of apartheid always represented itself as a hip, modern and funky team and through the decades it has provided entertainment to millions of adoring fans in South Africa and beyond.
Arguably the continent’s biggest sporting brand, Kaizer Chiefs is the most successful and most supported Club in the country and in neighbouring countries like Lesotho, Namibia, Botswana, etc has a proud history of producing some of the finest players to have graced South African football.
It was at Kaizer Chiefs where the talents of the likes of Patrick ‘Ace’ Ntsoelengoe, Abednigo ‘Shaka’ Ngcobo, Teenage Dladla, Marks ‘Go-man-Go’ Maponyane, Doctor ‘16V’ Khumalo, Lucas ‘Rhoo’ Radebe, Thabo ‘Tsiki-Tsiki’, Jabu ‘Shuffle’ Pule and now Itumeleng Khune were nurtured.
Kaizer Chiefs as trendsetters continue to make waves off the field too with the Club’s Facebook page reaching a fantastic milestone of ‘likes’ hit the 300 000 mark last year. This makes the Chiefs page the biggest in the PSL and among the biggest in the continent.
As the undisputed Cup Kings of South African football, the Amakhosi will be hoping to keep up with their culture of winning trophies as they celebrate yet another milestone.
