Kaizer Chiefs were drawn away to SuperSport United in the last 16 of the 2024/25 Carling Knockout Cup at a function held at the Galleria in Sandton on Tuesday.
This is the second edition of the event which pits teams that finished in the top eight of the league last season against sides that finished in the bottom half, in a straight knockout format. Further draws will be conducted to determine the forthcoming rounds.
Speaking at the event following the revelation of Amakhosi’s opponents, goalkeeper Brandon Petersen told the audience, “Obviously, it’s always exciting to play SuperSport and also our former coach (Gavin Hunt), a guy who knows the ins and outs, so I’m looking forward to it. I think this is the start for us; it’s the first trophy up for grabs for us. I think we have started off on the right footing and we want to go on.”
One particularly confident Amakhosi supporter from the Alexandra branch, Thabo Lebuso rose to give his prediction: “We’ll go there and chow them. Kaizer Chiefs is now like a car where the engine has been fixed. We are fit; we are ready,” he stated boldly to great cheers from everyone present.
The last 16 fixtures are scheduled to take place on the weekend of 19-20 October.
