Speaking from the club’s headquarters in Naturena, club spokesperson Putco Mafani said celebrations for winning the league will be suspended for the 90 minutes when the team play Wits because the game is the most important feature on the programme of the evening: ”We have to show all South Africans that we are deserving champions by beating Wits and winning up to the end, for our celebrations to reach a logical conclusion,” said an ecstatic Mafani.
He said his club would welcome all its celebrities and the names of these self-declared celebrity fans of the club will be read to the crowds and those present on the day will be asked to make a brief appearance in front of everyone.
“We have celebrities who are well known Chiefs fans who have been playing in our celebrities team for the better part of the season, and some attending our games regularly but we believe there are still more out there, particularly female celebrities who have to come out and be seen by everyone, including South Africa’s queen of gospel, Rebecca Malope, who will make an appearance at the game, others include Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Rosie Motene from Generations and the entire Malaika band, who will also perform alongside Zola of “Zola-Seven”, Senyaka, Chippa & Mzambiya, Kabelo aka Buga Luv and DJs Fresh, Bad Boy T, Monde and Glenn Lewis. This includes TV personalities like Tsepo Mabona and Monde Twala of eTV, Mahlomola Morake of sabcsport and Thomas Mlambo of Supersport and three-time world bantam-weight champion Hawk Makepula.
“Amongst politicians wearing the Chiefs badge are Nomvula Mokonyane-MEC for Housing in Gauteng, UDM leader Bantu Holomisa, former MEC for sport & recreation in Gauteng Mondli Gungubele, and the list, including some of the country’s top business men, goes on,” said Mafani.
Soccer City stadium General Manager Dennis Mumble said: “Chiefs games are unique in that they always attract high profile people but first we need to congratulate Chiefs on winning the Castle Premiership League, and we are very happy that much of that feat was achieved here at our stadium and that makes us proud partners of their achievement, we wish them all the success into the future. We are looking forward to a very entertaining match between Chiefs and Wits, the sides that provided us with high quality football here at the stadium. Who can forget that cracker of the Coca Cola Cup semi-finals which had to be decided over two games here?”
The club has prepared a top-of-the-range line-up of its celebrity fans to perform during the pre-match Sinqobile Music Bash featuring Boza from Squatta Camp, Zola & Ishmael, Chippa & Mzambiya, Malaika, Rebecca Malope, Kabelo and many more. The music razzmatazz will continue after the final whistle with fireworks marking the end of a successful League campaign by the new champions.
The first 1000 supporters to arrive at the stadium early will receive a limited edition Vodacom sponsored T-shirts, produced especially for marking the League Champs 2003/04 celebrations.
Among other items on the programme will be a crowd pulling curtain raiser to be played between the club’s legends and the Amakhosi Celebrities, a game scheduled for 5:20pm. With this game, as seen in the past, spectators will be treated to the football touch of former heroes of the club who still feel they have one or two things to show the crowds.
Gates open at 3pm while tickets are already on sale at the Computickets for the normal R20 price for adults and R10 for juveniles and supporters are urged to come on time to avoid disappointment.
