Kaizer Chiefs supporters watched in pain as their title aspirations were dealt a body blow on Sunday with a 2-1 defeat to high-flying Golden Arrows in their Premiership clash at Kings Park Stadium.

A goal in each half by national under-23 striker Mabhudi Khanyeza was enough to seal victory form the Durban side who completed a rare double over the Glamour Boys. Arrows won the first round clash 1-0 in Johannesburg and made their intentions clear very early in the Durban duel.

Khanyeza punished Chiefs after just 10 minutes with his seventh league goal of the season to put Arrows in the lead in their Premiership clash in Durban.

But defender David Kannemeyer took the air out of the Arrows sails when he pulled Chiefs level on 52 minutes with a brilliantly taken free-kick from outside the box.

Arrows were however not perturbed by this development as they went by with their business. The hosts went further ahead on 88 minutes through an unmarked Khanyeza, who headed home a good pass from Roux.

Chiefs had selected their strongest possible starting line-up for this Premiership clash with utility midfielder Nhlanhla Kubeka back in the picture. Kubeka – a useful defender at times - to played in midfield while, Cyril Nzama, Patrick Mabedi, Peter Matshitse and Kannemeyer manned the defence.

Striker David Radebe started on the bench while Zimbabwean national under-23 Kelvin Mushangazhike will assist Congolese hitman Kabamba Musasa in attack. But as the tough got tougher, the Chiefs technical team introduced Radebe in place of Mushangazhike on 78 minutes.

Arrows, who missed a couple of their seasoned campaigners like Lesley Langa, Sphiwe Mkhonza, Siyabonga Khanyile and Jason Lakay, appeared comfortable and never in danger of throwing the points away.

The victory take Arrows to third on the PSL log behind joint-leaders Moroka Swallows and Orlando Pirates.
