Arrows turnaround vital - Obua

David Obua is determined to put his and his teammates weekend performance behind them as they approach an important league game against Golden Arrows on Wednesday evening.

The Amakhosi will be back at the Vodacom Loftus Stadium in Tshwane where they lifted the Telkom Knockout Trophy at the start of the month when they host the KwaZulu Natal team.

With Chiefs drawing at the weekend it has meant that the Amakhosi have drawn three consecutive league games. The lanky Ugandan is confident that Chiefs can turn around their fortunes against Arrows a team Chiefs have defeated in three of their last four league encounters against them.

The recent spate of draws has seen Chiefs languishing in eleventh place on the league standings and Obua would like for nothing more than to ensure that by the end of the year, The Amakhosi are inside the top five. With three games to go Obua believes the door is wide open for Chiefs to get the maximum number of points from these matches, and use their recent run of results as an inspiration to help them gain strength and get stronger from here on.

No return

Failure to pick up the maximum number of points on Wednesday, Obua believes will be a step backwards for Chiefs. The man who has played twelve games for Chiefs in all competition this season and has featured in three of his teams last three league games, spoke about The Amakhosi’s burning hunger to turn around their fortunes, as he explained, “we do not have to be reminded that we did not play well against Santos, the guys are aware that we can not produce another performance like that. So we can only go forward from here, we have over the past two seasons done well against Arrows, and we must go into the game knowing that we can play better as well as believe that we can take the three point incentive on offer”.

Personal challenge

Obua was used as a substitute on a number of occasions in league games this season - in all he has featured in eight league games five of them as a substitute it was his ability to come on as a substitute and make a difference that convinced Amakhosi coach Muhsin Ertugral to start him.

Making it into the starting eleven was at the top of his priority list and now that he has made it there Obua is not intending on giving up his spot, as he added. “As a player you work towards being in the starting eleven every game, getting out there and testing yourselves against the best players in the league is what I live for, getting into the starting eleven is the first step. Staying there is the next and the only way that can be achieved is if I perform consistently well, and give all that I have in every match”.

Next level

After making it into the game day eleven, Obua is convinced he can perform at a high level weekend in and out. commenting on his recent performances Obua said, “if I measure the way I have played I would say that over the past couple of games I was getting back to where I felt I should be. I was getting involved in the game, being a big contributor and helping the team be more dominant in the matches, I do feel that in the last outing against Santos I personally was not as creative and imaginative as I should have been. We have three games left for the year and the task now is to emerge from them with the maximum number of games, obviously I would like to play a central role in ensuring the team achieves that objective”.
