Shaun Bartlett ,Chiefs high profile off-season signing from English Premier League outfit Charlton Athletic, has wasted no time in settling into his new surroundings at Chiefs, as he has been impressive during his first few training sessions with his new teammates.

Bartlett who was roped in as a cure for Chiefs shyness in front of goal last season, when the top scorer at the team managed to find the net on just nine occasions.

The former Bafana Bafana hit man comes highly recommended and his goal scoring prowess in known to all after successful spells in Switzerland, The United States and most recently in England.

The man who comes to Chiefs with the expectations of 14 Million Amakhosi fans is aware of the job ahead, “Chiefs are a big team and supporters are used to success, I just want to help the team add to the success they have achieved over the past 36 years” adds Shaun.

Shaun is also aware that he needs to find the back of the net as much as he can, as he says it is a team effort that will help Chiefs win the title, “I can only score if chances are created for me, we will as a team work together and if the midfield does its job then I can do mine. Having said that I know we have a good team and I am sure I will be given a regular opportunities and it will be up to me to put them away”.

Bartlett who comes from Cape Town does not want to put a figure to the amount of goals he wants to score, as he states his main objective is to ensure that the team emerges successful from the season.

“I don’t want to put a figure to the amount of goals I would like to score, I would prefer to score less and win the league than score thirty goals and land up fifth. The important thing for me is to ensure that the team wins trophies and titles and that will make me happier than me receiving personal accolades”.

As Shaun continues to ready himself for the new season he does it with the knowledge that he will be taking on his old foes from his time in England, Manchester United in the Vodacom Challenge.

The irony for Shaun is that his first game for Charlton Athletic was against Manchester United in 2001 and he scored on debut, his first official game for the Amakhosi will also be against the red devils in Cape Town on July18th where he will once again be looking to score on debut.
