Amakhosi midfielder Kearyn Baccus is looking forward to facing a determined and motivated Polokwane City. Chiefs hosts the Polokwane based outfit in an Absa Premiership game on Saturday evening at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg. Kick-off for the game at 18h00.
Despite Polokwane City playing the second leg of their MTN8 Semi-final against Highlands Park three days after facing Chiefs, Baccus feels that Polokwane will not hold back against Chiefs. “Every team wants to win every game,” he explains. “They will have their best players playing on Saturday and then they will have to back it up on Tuesday. It happens all over the world - the best players in the world playing all the time.”
Baccus has scored one goal and provided an assist already this season. He has been keeping an eye on Polokwane City and is expecting a challenging encounter when Amakhosi come up against them on Saturday. Of the upcoming game, he adds: “I have seen some of their games. I feel it is going to be a very direct game, we need to play to our strong points.”
On his own performances this season Baccus, is pleased by his contributions to the team’s achievements. “Every year I want to get better and better regardless of age. I came to South Africa to help the team get back to winning ways and things are working out so far and I am happy,” he says.
The midfielder spent a vast part of his career playing in Australia and is pleased with the way things are progressing for him on the football front at Kaizer Chiefs
“I feel good and I am enjoying the training. We are doing everything that is football related. I’m adapting to training and playing at a higher altitude in Johannesburg. There were days when I found it difficult to breathe but now, I am getting fitter and I still have a lot more to give,” he explains.
Baccus laid on Chiefs’ first league goal of the season for Lebogang Manyama in Amakhosi’s 3-2 win over Highlands Park on the opening day of the season. His other goal contribution saw him score the winner in his team’s’ 2-1 come from behind win in their last league game against Cape Town City in Cape Town.
While Baccus is pleased with the start made by Chiefs he is under no illusion that there is a lot of football still to play this season. “Three wins and one draw is a good start but there is another twenty six games to go and we can’t get ahead of ourselves. We have to stay grounded and keep working hard as we have been doing,” he concludes.
