The Nigerian born striker, Ibe Zito Ogbonna returned to training on Tuesday after being sidelined by severe tonsillitis.

Zito who banged a winner against rivals Sundowns early in the year was withdrawn from the squad that was going to play against Thanda Royal Zulu in January due to tonsillitis.

“I really don’t know what happened. It started ahead of the Mamelodi Sundowns game but I felt fine on the day of the match and played. When we traveled to Durban the next week I thought I was okay but on the day of the game I was in severe pain.

“I was not happy to miss the game as I wanted to build on my momentum having started the year on a high note. I soldiered and played against Ajax Cape Town. I struggled again and went for days without eating. One day I was driving when everything went blank and I ended up going to the hospital. I was even struggling to breath but the doctors after several tests assured me that I was fine,” he revealed.

“The injury took a lot out of me emotionally. I felt drained but I am happy to be back at training with the guys. We have a lot of work ahead,”

Ogbonna said he was impressed with the way the guys are playing, “It has been good, and when the team wins we all win. It is not about one individual. We are all family here at Chiefs and we are united by one goal, which is to bring more glory to the Club.

I am not going to put myself under pressure and return straight away to the team. I am just going to continue working hard and when my chance comes I will grab it,” he added.
