Lucky “Sheriff” Baloyi has vowed to improve after making his official debut in the Gold & Black jersey against Nathi Lions during the Nedbank Last 32 at King Zwelithini Stadium on Sunday, 13 March 2011.

The 19-year-old Mokopane born defender replaced Jimmy Jambo who had to be substituted in the second half due to a shoulder injury.

“I had been on the bench twice before the game so I knew that I will at some stage get an opportunity to play. When the Coach called my name, I was ready to give my best for the team,” he said speaking to kaizerchiefs.com on Thursday afternoon.

“I want to thank the Technical Team for giving me an opportunity to play for this Club. I must also add that my teammates were also supportive knowing that I was making my first appearance,”

Baloyi did not put his foot wrong and helped Chiefs to proceed to the next round of the competition despite playing in an unfamiliar left back position.

“It was never going to be easy playing on the left side of defence as a right footed player. I decided to stick to basics and keep it simple. I was confident of doing the job from the defensive point of view and also knew that if I get a good first touch then I will be fine,”

“The game itself was not an easy one as we allowed Nathi to come back from two goals down. The level of organisation was also much better to what I was used to at the development and during my spell with Soweto Panthers,”

“At the end we won the game and for me, I want to continue working hard in training while learning from other senior guys in the team. I want to improve on all aspects of my game...there is no need to get carried away,” added Baloyi.
