Amakhosi goalkeeper Arthur Bartman spoke to kaizerchiefs.com about his disappointment at losing Sunday’s Macufe Cup Game in Bloemfontein when Chiefs came up against Bloemfontein Celtic.

Chiefs went behind in the game early on when Celtic found an opening goal at the Free State Stadium in the 11th minute through Prince Olomu, the Amakhosi did create a host of goal scoring opportunites throughout the first half with a host of players including George Lebese and Kaizer Motaung Junior keeping Celtic keeper Patrick Tigynemb busy.

In the 19th minute the industrious Kaizer Motaung Junior was up ended by Patrick Tgnyemb in the Celtic 18 yard area and the Amakhosi were awarded a penalty which Jose Torrealba sent wide of the Celtic goal.

“It was not ideal for us to go down early on in the game” explained Bartman after the game, according to the Chiefs keeper Kaizer Motuang Junior who captained the team on the day was inspirational form and he lead the way as the Amakhosi clawed their way back into the game.

Of the inspired form of his stand in skipper Bartman said, “Kaizer did really well and he lead from the front, he took his goal in the 43rd minute which drew us level in the game very well and even when we went down he kept on encouraging us to keep on going. He really lead us from the front”

The talking point of the second half of the game was two penalties calls which did not go Chiefs way as well as a collision between Bartman and Celtic’s Nathan Paulse, “the clash with Nathan did knock me down but thankfully it was not bad and I feel fine now and during the game I was able to go on.”

With the scored deadlocked at 1-1 after 90 minutes penalties were needed to decide the game, Chiefs managed to score their first two kicks with Gerald Sibeko and Siyabulela Songwiqi slotting home from twelve yards, Celtic to managed to score their opening two spot kicks as well.

David Mathebula missed Chiefs third kick while Bartman saved Lennox Bacela’s third for Celtic, with the scored tied at 4-4 in the shootout after five kicks a piece the shootout moved into sudden death. Tshifiwa Mbooi missed Chiefs sixth kick, Danny Venter beat Bartman to hand Celtic a 5-4 victory in the shoot -out.

Despite the loss Bartman did welcome the chance he had to play in a competitive game, “I have not played this season so it was good that I got to play against Celtic it was a testing and very competitive game, I felt I made some good saves overall we were good we did not play at the same tempo in the second half.

It is just unfortunate that we did not win the game. Most of the guys who played against Celtic have not really played this season and hopefully with more game time we will improve our match fitness.”
