Head Coach, Stuart Baxter revealed that before training session on Wednesday the entire team congratulated captain, Itumeleng Khune on making it to Goal’s Top 50 football players in the world.
The reigning Kaizer Chiefs Player of the Year, PSL Footballer of the Year, and PSL Goalkeeper of the Year was inspirational last season for both Club and country where he was also appointed as a captain.
“We all congratulated Itu (Itumeleng Khune) before training on Wednesday. We are all proud of his achievements,” said Stuart Baxter.
According to Goal.com; "The Goal 50 is regarded as one of the most credible and respected awards in sport because it is chosen by the world’s biggest football website.
Voting takes place at the end of domestic and international seasons for the majority of countries.
More than 500 Goal.com journalists from around the world select their top 50 players, giving a truly global view."
Khune said he was honoured by the latest accolade; “It is a supreme honour to be selected among the 50 top players in the world. I will continue working hard with the help of my coaches and players this season.
I would like to thank everyone from Kaizer Chiefs, Bafana Bafana, my Family and those who have contributed in my development from the coaches, staff at the Kaizer Chiefs development, my coaches at national team junior levels including everyone who has contributed in shaping me both as a person and a player.
I am very happy with the acknowledgement but to me the Team always come first and individual awards mean less if the Team does not achieve."
