‘I would like to hand over this award to Doctor (Khumalo) to show that I am part of a TEAM.’ That’s how Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter reacted after receiving the Absa Premiership Coach of the Month of August award at the Chiefs Village this (Thursday) morning. Former Kaizer Chiefs stalwart Doctor Khumalo is Baxter’s assistant.
Baxter and his team were undisputed in the opening five games of the league, all played in August. He says, ‘it is good to be recognised for the work we are doing. What is key to me is for us to continue where we left off before the Fifa-break. We have to get back on track.’
Kaizer Chiefs won five, scored eight and conceded one goal during August, resulting in the top position on the log.
Baxter adds, ‘I handed over the award to Doctor, because I got this award due to being the Head Coach. However, when you look at it, I work with a TEAM. They do a lot of work. I am happy with the award though.’
Doctor responds, ‘it is a great honour to be acknowledged. The coach has been awarded before. He strongly believes in teamwork as a Technical Team. It is a good gesture from the coach to share in the accolade. I am grateful for that. And I would like to congratulate him in return. We work well as a team and I think this gesture will go a long way to deepen that.’
Coach Baxter received a trophy and R5000 cheque for his efforts.
