“We want to benefit from winning the MTN 8 Cup,” revealed the Kaizer Chiefs Coach Stuart Baxter during the Media Open Day held at the Chiefs Village on Thursday morning. Kaizer Chiefs welcome Maritzburg United in the Absa Premiership league match on Saturday, 27 September 2014. Kickoff for the game is at 20:15. Tickets for the match are on sale at Computicket and Shoprite/Checkers outlets nationwide.

“It is going to be a difficult game on Saturday. Steve (Maritzburg Coach Steve Khompela) is a creative coach. There's always changes in his squad, but he is a good coach with a good personality.” Baxter worked with Khompela at Bafana Bafana in the past.

“We just came out of a good win in the MTN 8 Cup. We want to benefit from the win in the MTN 8 by continuing with good performances. We will lose one of the games one day, but we want to give a good performance all the time. Maritzburg are a good team. They believe in themselves and Steve gets the best out of his players,” commented Baxter when asked about their opponents.

Any pressure ahead of the game? Baxter responded, “Our players are used to the pressure and the requirement to perform well. They can expect a tongue lashing if they don't perform.”

About Siphiwe Tshabalala and Bernard Parker’s return to the fold? “Shabba and Parker are some of our best players, but they know they can't walk into the team. They are working their socks off in training at the moment,” said Baxter.

Goals coming from nonstriking players? “When the legendary Ian Rush was at Liverpool and at his best he went 17 games without a goal,” referred Baxter. “It will be a problem if the strikers were not threatening, not getting in the box and not causing problems for the opposition. At he moment I am happy the goals are coming from any angle,” added Baxter.

“We are focused on what we are doing. We are focusing on becoming a threat ourselves than threats against us.” Baxter was answering a question about charging opponents as a team to beat at the moment.

Baxter went on to demystify the matter of his goalkeeping area following many pundits predicting a problem in the absence of the injured Itumeleng Khune. “We don’t have any fear in any of our departments. The fear is in the media. We are happy with the work of the other goalkeepers.”
