Accompanying the team was Managing Director Bheki Shongwe, Football Manager Bobby Motaung and Marketing Director, Jessica Motaung. Corporate Communications Manager, Thebe Mohatle was the Programme Director on an afternoon to celebrate the life of Rebecca Tshabalala.
Managing Director Bheki Shongwe, speaking on behalf of the Club, paid tribute to both the Tshabalala and Sekgopa family, “I stand before you this afternoon on behalf of the Board of Directors, the Management, Players, Staff and Supporters of Kaizer Chiefs Football Club, with head bowed and hands clasped to respect and honour the work of God that has touched the families of Tshabalala, Sekgopa and the entire nation,”
“May I thank Rebecca for being a mother and for nurturing and guiding the development of her children and those she touched. For us at Kaizer Chiefs, she birthed one Siphiwe Tshabalala; an icon and undoubtedly a prominent member of our family. For the nation she birthed a hero, an enigma whose achievement has remained the most talked about piece of the African success of the 2010 FIFA World Cup,” add Shongwe.
Jimmy Tau, who suffered the same fate back in 2009, had words of comfort for his teammate, “I was in the same position, as you know, back in 2009 when I lost my mother….I stand here without parents today. The people that are here are your mothers and fathers…you are not alone. We are here today to offer our support to you and the family,” said EL Capitan.
The funeral will take place on Saturday, 11 December 2010 at 1735 Buffalo Thorn Street, Protea Glen (SOWETO) starting at 8am. The cortege will leave for the cemetery at 11am.
