Kaizer Chiefs team manager Bobby Motaung was a very happy man on Tuesday after he was cleared by the Johannesburg Magistrate Court on charges of defrauding the SA Receiver of Revenue (Sars) two years ago.

The Amakhosi team manager Motaung appeared along with six co-accused Robert Mkhonki, Thokozane Khumalo, Enell Singh, Ritesh Beeput, Sankara Maharaj and Usha Maharaj. They were alleged to have defrauded Sars of more than R100-million.

"Today I am very happy that I have been cleared,” said Bobby Motaung. "The magistrate withdrew the charge due to inconsistencies in the charge sheet and lack of evidence from the prosecution."

"I am now going to consult with my family and lawyers on what steps to take following the negative publicity after the tax allegations," said Bobby Motaung.

"The media went to town about the story, sometimes without verifying the facts and my father’s name was dragged into this issues without no reason."

"The club’s reputation and our business was seriously affected by those reports and I won’t be surprised if the same people will not write about the outcome of the case as they did back then," he said.
