Kaizer Chiefs Austrian goalkeeper Markus Bocsker injured a muscle at the back of his right shoulder during training on Tuesday, and looks unlikely to be available for selection for this comings Sunday’s league encounter against SuperSport United in Tshwane.

The 26-year-old former Austrian youth international will undergo further tests on Thursday, Friday and Saturday before a final decision will made as to whether or not he could be part of the match day squad for this weekends crunch game.

While the Chiefs medical team are unsure how long Markus could be out for, another of the Chiefs goalkeeping contingent Emile Baron resumed full training this week and not shown any signs of the thigh injury which has kept him out since the 22nd August from resurfacing.

Baron resumes training

While Itumeleng Khune has done the business for Chiefs between the posts over the past two games and is yet to be beaten in open play, as both goals the national U-23 goalkeeper has conceded have come from spot kicks, Muhsin Ertugral will be pleased to have Emille Baron back from injury.

Baron’s return to fitness will only intensify the already tightly contested battle for the number one spot at Chiefs.

Baron on Wednesday spoke of his happiness at resuming training as he said, “I have had a frustrating time with injuries over the past couple of seasons and I hope this is the end of it for me on the treatment table, all I would like for is to get some matches under belt and take things from there. Right at the moment I feel fine and I am just looking forward to trying to work my way back in the sticks for the club”.

Bocsker not long lay off

Amakhosi Physiotherapist David Milner did mention on Wednesday that while there is no reason to be overly concerned about Markus injury, the Chiefs medical team does not expect him to be absent from training for long. As Milner said to kaizerchiefs.com “we will put him through some more tests on Thursday and Friday but I can safely say that it is not a major injury and we do not see him missing out on training further than this week” Markus himself was feeling better on Wednesday and when asked if he was feeling any discomfort in his shoulder, he said “I feel much less pain than I did yesterday and I think in the next day or so I could be up and running but we will have to wait and see.”
