It began on the 12th of June with the group stages and concluded on the 13th of July with German excellence, quality and precision conquering the world through a stunning extra time goal.

Mario Goetze of Germany scored the goal to send Argentina into panic mode in extra time during the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil Final match at Maracana on July 13, 2014 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The recently retired Glamour Boy, Kaizer Motaung Jnr was an analyst for ENCA TV Channel during the World Cup period. Kaizer Jnr provided his insight and impeccable football knowledge during the analysis of the matches. kaizerchiefs.com caught up with the former Chiefs striker to get his review of the world’s most followed sports.

Good to talk to you after what must have been a hectic month doing work for ENCA TV? Take us through your experience of Brazil 2014 as it happened?

“It has been an amazing World Cup to watch. As a former striker myself, the number of goals scored, 171 goals in 64 games matching the 1998 goals scored in France impressed me most. There were also surprises in the results; the South American football shook the world stage. The countries such as Costa Rica and Colombia performed well in the tournament.

Amidst all the doubts about the readiness of hosts Brazil and protests that erupted before the kickoff of the tournament, this was an exciting World Cup by far. There were new elements added for the first time in the World Cup. The Goal Line Technology was introduced for the first time in the World Cup and it really added value. There was also the spray line element for the first time in the world cup which helped the man in the middle to control the free kicks. All these newly introduced elements added precision in decision making. It is all great for as long as they continue to be applied within the realm of them,” said Kaizer Jnr.

What is your pick of the Brazil 2014 moment?

“There were great moments in Brazil. My pick will be the 7-1 Brazil loss to eventual winners Germany. That loss signalled the end of an era for Brazil as the footballing nation. That was a real shift in footballing history for Brazil as host losing with such a big margin. For us in South Africa we can take a cue on how Germany has developed their football in recent times. They are reaping the rewards of their development of football and their Bundesliga has been reinvented to appeal and become more competitive,” commented Kaizer Jnr.

Who is the pick of your best players?

“The Germans played as a team. If you look at their players’ individual performances it is difficult to single out one player as the best. Their goalkeeper Manuel Neuer of Germany is deserved Golden Glove win. There were other bright shining goalkeepers in the tournament, the likes of Guillermo Ochoa of Mexico and Vincent Enyeama of Nigeria spring to my mind. Neuer’s injury time Karim Benzema’s close range, one hand shot stopper distinguished him from the other best performers in Brazil.

Colombia forward James Rodriguez was a wonder boy of Brazil 2014 and it was not surprising to see him walking away with the Golden Boot for finishing as the top scorer. The 23-year-old, who plays for Monaco, scored six goals in five matches as his side reached the quarterfinals, where they lost to hosts Brazil,” said Kaizer Jnr.

Lionel Messi of Argentina received the Golden Ball during the award ceremony after the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil Final match.

The 20 World Cup tournaments since 1930 (1942 and 1946 when it was not held because of the Second World War) have been won by eight different national teams. Brazil has won five times, and they are the only team to have played in every tournament. The other World Cup winners are Italy and Germany, with four titles each; Argentina and inaugural winners Uruguay, with two titles each; and England, France and Spain, with one title each.

Interesting views Kaizer Jnr, tell us about your TV work for ENCA TV as Brazil 2014 analyst?

“I had a great time doing TV work on something that I love so dearly, soccer. Working with a team of presenters and a welcoming crew was a nice challenge. I really enjoyed it and I am humbled for the opportunity to have been part of Brazil 2014,” said Kaizer Jnr

It is back to domestic leagues and how do you see The Glamour boys doing this time?

“Last season stayed in the past and we have to move forward and focus on the new season. The guys look strong in their preparations. It is exciting to see them so sharp and exciting. We are motivated and we will start with the Carling Black Label Cup on the 26th July 2014,” said Kaizer Jnr.
