Five times FIFA World Cup winners Brazil will meet The Netherlands in what will be a repeat of the 1994 World Cup quarterfinals and 1998 Semi Finals when the teams face off in Port Elizabeth on Saturday afternoon.

This after both teams won their round of 16 games on Monday.



The Netherlands were 2-1 victors over Slovakia, the team that knocked out defending World Champions Italy at the group stages.

There was to be no giant-killing act from the tournament rookies at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban as Arjen Robben shot Holland into the lead in the first half.



Wesley Sneijder scored another eight minutes from time.

Even though Robert Vittek scored his fourth goal of the World Cup when he converted a penalty in second half injury time which was the last piece of action in the game it was not enough and Holland move on.



For The Netherlands the biggest talking points of the game were the unhappiness shown by striker Robin Van Persie when he was substituted in the second half.

Dutch coach Bert Van Marwijk played downed the incident afterwards, but he did say that his team need to put away more of the chances they create if they want to go far in the competition.



Monday’s other round of 16 match up was between familiar South American foes Brazil and Chile who met at Ellis Park.

Twelve years ago at the World Cup in France the sides also squared off in the round of 16 , just as it was in Paris, Brazil were the winners winning 3-0 at Ellis Park.



Juan broke Chile’s resistance to head home a corner mid way through the first half, Luis Fabiano scored Brazil’s second and his fourth goal of the World Cup when he latched onto a through pass from Kaka in the 38th minute.

In the second half Brazil took their foot off the pedal but still managed to score a third through Robinho who continues to torment Chile, netting his eight goal in six appearances against them.



Brazil sounding a warning to the remaining teams in the competition their coach Dunga saying after wards that they are gaining in confidence and are getting better.

It is now an enticing battle between two teams who are on form as Brazil face The Netherlands in what will be a fitting way for Port Elizabeth to sign off at the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
