As they did for the quarterfinals the PSL decided to once again hold a public draw to decide who would meet who in the penultimate stage of what has been and exciting cup competition so far. First out of the hat was surprise semi finalist and PSL relegation candidates Classic who have had a far better time in the Absa Cup than they have had in the league recently, were drawn to face Orlando Pirates as they aim for their first cup final appearance ever.
For Chiefs the going will be tougher in the semi’s as coach Ernst Middendorp’s wish was accepted and The Amakhosi will now face current PSL log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.
Commenting on the draw Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp said, "to win competitions you must at some stage face the best teams and one needs to get the upper hand on them. I wanted Sundowns and we got them so we can’t be unhappy with the draw, we will put our best foot forward in preparing for this game and will ensure that we are very well prepared for the game."
PSL CEO Trevor Phillips has said that both the semi finals will be played over the weekend of the 29th-30th April and will take place at neutral venues which are still to be decided upon by the Cup committee. He also said that teams that were drawn first will have the opportunity to decide on which change room they would prefer to use in a given stadium, in the case of Sundowns vs Chiefs The Brazilians will have the first opportunity to decide which strip they would prefer to play in as there will be a colour clash when Chiefs meet Sundowns in the final before the final as they were drawn out of the hat first.
