Kaizer Chiefs defender Thomas Sweswe has described the additional time that Chiefs have had to prepare for their next Absa Premiership encounter against BIDVest Wits on April 6 and their Nedbank Cup last 16 tie also against the Students which follows four days later as ideal with the run into the league championship looming large.

Sweswe who was away with the Zimbabwean national team in Mali for an Africa Cup of Nations qualifying game at the weekend returned to Johannesburg on Monday, spoke of the benefits of having the extra days off as Wits are busy in African club competition this weekend.

“I do believe that it works in our favour to have these extra days off, Tinashe Nengomasha and I were in Mali, while Valery was in Rwanda and also four other guys were in SA playing for Bafana and the U23’s. When you travel far you need time to reacclimatize when you get back home.

Having another week to prepare has been ideal because we have had the chance to recuperate and we have been able to do some extra work on the training ground, and also our wounded have had additional time to work their way to full fitness.”

According to Sweswe Chiefs are not giving up in the title race and have been covering all their bases in preparing for their remaining six league games of the season.

As he also said, “the guys are taking these games very serious, our title life depends on us being successful in each of our remaining league games, we have used this break to recharge body and mind and also have been able to asses the targets we have set for ourselves.”

As Sweswe further explains the Amakhosi have geared themselves up to featuring in more than just six games, “after this until the end of May we hoping to play in ten games, six league and four cup matches and there will be no rest for us over these eight weeks, we now recharged and ready to go. Our minds have been set at playing ten games in eight weeks.”
