Ertugral said he was disappointed and not too pleased with his team’s performance on Sunday afternoon, and that he would not be looking to hide from the fact that they could have given a better account for themselves. While the usual questions circled the Chiefs surrounding team selection and missing personal he did make one thing clear, and that is he will not tolerate a repeat performance, or more dropped points when his team are next in action on Wednesday evening against Golden Arrows.
No hiding
Speaking to kazerchiefs.com after Sunday afternoon’s goalless stalemate with Santos Ertugral, did not mince his words and said straight up “Anyone wearing a Chiefs jersey needs to be proud to take the field in that shirt and I do not feel that was a performance for us to even say that we are Kaizer Chiefs”.
Ertugral also said that he would not shy away from the fact that his team should have come away with three points, and was not going to make any excuses for their below par showing.
“I am not going to blame the weather and the referee we should have been awarded a penalty in the first half, having said that we cannot rely on penalties to win us matches. Santos used the wind to could effect in the first half when they played with it, unfortunately we could not do the same when it was behind us, and not managing one shot on target in the second half was really disappointing”.
Total improvement
Ertugral also pointed out that he was not going to single out individuals but is aiming towards and improved performance all round, in all departments from his team for their remaining three games of 2007.
An explanatory Ertugral said “It is not about shouting at the boys and making them play in fear, we need to understand that we have not been at our best in the last couple of league games and that needs to change. I will be talking one on one with the boys and will use the opportunity to get them prepared for the remaining games, I think that we need to improve as a collective as one and then things should fall into place for us. This is something we will work on as we prepare for Arrows as well as Celtic and Leopards beyond that”.
New Years Resolution
The New Year might be only three weeks away in real time - in football terms it is still three games and eight weeks away, so Ertugral’s mind right at the moment is preoccupied mainly with the remaining games for 2007. He did though say to kaizerchiefs.com that he has a list of names that he would like to add to his team roster for the remainder of the season.
“We saw on Sunday that with Shaun Bartlett injured for the match and Kaizer Motaung Junior having to come off the field with a knock. With Mabhudi Khenyeza feeling the effects of so many games without extended rest, we had to make changes and we finished the game with Sandile Zuke and Mandla Masango up front. Do not take credit away from these youngsters but they are not out and out strikers. We are threadbare in that department and need to add some muscle to our attack and perhaps elsewhere in the park as well, I have made recommendations to the team manager and Chairman as to which players I would like to add to my squad and perhaps in January we could have a new face or two in the squad”.
