Nzama’s participation in the Swallows game brought in his 199 appearance for Chiefs in all competition.
Sunday’s victory was the second time in his career that the Chiefs captain was part of a Chiefs team that defeated their close rivals Swallows in an SAA Supa8 semi final match. As he was part of the action two years ago when The Amakhosi defeated the Dube Birds again at the semi final stage of the 2004 SAA Supa8 competition, ironically that game like this past Sunday’s match was also played at the ABSA Stadium in Durban.
Nzama who made his Kaizer Chiefs debut almost six years ago against Orlando Pirates during the 2000 – 2001 season has played in 199 matches in all competitions for Chiefs. During his six years with The Amakhosi the thirty two year old Nzama has thus far made 193 starting appearances for Chiefs and has made a further six appearances as a substitute.
Cyril assumed the mantle, as club captain last season, taking over the reigns from Patrick Mabedi will be looking ahead to this weekend’s game against Golden Arrows to reach the magical 200 game mark. In doing so Cyril will join midfielder Thabo Mooki as the only other player in the team to have reached a double century of games in Gold and Black.
The past week also heralded in a number of achievements for two more Amakhosi players, Derrick Spencer started his fiftieth game for Chiefs against Bidvest Wits at the FNB Stadium on the 20th September. That game also saw goalkeeper Rowen Fernandez score his first goal for Chiefs and it came in his 115th appearance for The club, Fernandez goal came in the form of a forty third minute penalty.
