The Amakhosi will face Bloemfontein Celtic at home on the 21st August in their quarterfinal clash of the 2010 MTN8 competition. Kaizer Chiefs finished third last season, a position that pitted them against sixth-placed Celtic.

Revenge of sorts could be on the mind of Chiefs as it was Celtic who ran out winners the last time the teams met in this competition. Celtic defeated Chiefs 2-1 at the same stage of the 2005-2006 season.

For Chiefs communications manager Thebe Mohatle and captain Jimmy Tau that game against Celtic in August 2005 holds special memories as it was amongst the first game they participated in as members of Chiefs playing and backroom staff.

The Amakhosi skipper who was amongst representatives of the eight participating teams signed a commemorative wall bearing the logos of all the competing clubs at the launch ceremony which was held at Orlando Stadium in Soweto on Thursday.

“One of my first games for Chiefs was a top eight game against Celtic and we lost so this is the opportunity for me to rewrite that memory and my own personal history with Chiefs,” said Tau, who lifted the Telkom Charity Cup at the weekend.

“We started off the season well and we do believe that it is possible for us to win the competition. Playing Celtic won’t be easy but I feel we have what it takes to proceed to the next round.”

Amakhosi communications manager Thebe Mohatle is hoping that Chiefs win their clash against Celtic as it will help him wipe away the painful memory of the loss to the Free State outfit at the 2005 tournament.

“I remember the game that we lost to Celtic in 2005 very well, I had just begun working at Chiefs back then and the memory of that loss has been with me for five long years, defeating Celtic will help wipe away those sad memories,” reflected Mohatle.

Chiefs will also be looking to keep up a recent pattern in the MTN8 where they have won the tournament every alternate year. The Amakhosi won the tournament in 2006-2007 and again in 2008- 2009 the latter being the first year the tournament was officially known as the MTN8.
