“A draw in our previous league game against Maritzburg United was an eye opener. Before the Maritzburg game, we were on a 9 wins in a row and signalling our determination to defend our Championship,” said Captain Itumeleng Khune. Khune was speaking to kaizerchiefs.com ahead of the titanic clash between the Amakhosi and Phunya Sele Sele coming up on Wednesday, 19th February 2014.
“It is every player’s wish to play in a game such as this one. Most of the supporters are looking forward to the day of the match always when we are going to play Celtic. Most people had long written us off as unlikely to defend out league trophy, if you recall the backlash we received after the loss against SuperSport United early in the season, but that loss became a blessing in disguise,” said Khune.
“After the 2-all draw against Maritzburg United, we went straight back to the drawing board. We know very well that Celtic will be coming to us gunning for the three points. They have our former Coach, Ernst Middendorp, he always gives us a problem when we meet the teams he is coaching since he left Kaizer Chiefs. They will be coming here planning to cause an upset, but we are ready,” commented Khune.
“The idea of rotating the squad has given everyone in the squad a chance to play. It also shows that every player at Chiefs deserves to play. The competition for places in the Team has increased tremendously since the rotation came to an effect due to a congested fixture list,” continued Khune.
“As a goalkeeper I prepare to avoid conceding a goal in each and every game I play. Goalkeepers are judged by the number of goals they concede. At the end of the day keeping a clean sheet boils down to teamwork. Remember, everyone wants to beat Chiefs. Celtic has a very quick wing play. We will not look at their individual players or their danger men, we will focus on our own tactics to ensure that we bag the maximum points,” said the Chiefs No 1, Khune.
“Celtic must know they are coming to FNB Stadium and we will not let them spoil our good record playing at home. Our faithful supporters have been coming in their numbers at our games and we will not disappoint them on Wednesday. We want to show them our appreciation for their undying love for the Club,” continued Khune.
Tickets are available at Computicket outlets nationwide at a cost of R40 for the adults and R10 for the juveniles accompanied by adults.
Kickoff for the game at the FNB Stadium, on Wednesday, 19th February 2014 is at 19:30. Gates will be opened at 16:30.
There is the TOP 6 taxis who will be transporting to & from the STADIUM.
