Our Chairman Kaizer Motaung was re-elected on Tuesday to serve in the National Soccer League (NSL) Executive Committee.
“I would like to thank the voting members for this honour of continuing to serve football in this capacity,” Motaung reacted after the NSL’s quadrennial general meeting in Fourways, Johannesburg.
“A special congratulations to Dr. Irvin Khoza on his re-election as chairman, said Motaung. “Every election is interesting and this one was no different. I wish to congratulate Mato Madlala, Stanley Matthews, David Thidiela, Jose Ferreira, Dr. Rejoice Simelane and Khumbulani Konco, who were all elected to serve in the committee and wish them everything of the best.
I wish to thank the members who all served in the previous committee especially Mike Mokoena who decided not to stand this time, John Comitis and Dan Simelane for the valuable contribution during their tenure.”
Khoza, Motaung and Jomo Sono have been credited for the development and commercialization of football in South Africa. Earlier this year, the trio were recognised as “fathers of South African football” for their contribution to the game in South Africa as the JSE opened the first market of 2016 (27 January) in honour of these legends.
“Football forms a big part of the socio-economics in our country,” added Motaung. “The global economy is stretched at the moment, which means that we will need all stakeholders to hold hands in order to navigate us through this challenging period.”
The new Executive Committee will serve for four year term.
