This weekend is a very unique weekend – Johannesburg vs. Pretoria. The two Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates against the two Pretoria giants Sundowns and Supersport.
It is also unique as in Pirates and Sundowns have a score to settle. In the last encounter Pirates were defeated 4 – 0 by Sundowns. This game will also determine who stays on top of the log for now.
Games between Chiefs and Supersport have always been very close encounters with a lot of draws and Supersport having won most of the games Last Season was Kaizer Chiefs dominance over Supersport having beaten them in the Coca Cola Cup and in the league.
In fact the second round game against Supersport was the turning point in Kaizer Chiefs winning the league this is were we turned the corner and won the last lap of the race.
This game on Sunday is very crucial for Kaizer Chiefs in the road towards the title - the setback in losing our first league game against Silver Stars last week Wednesday – this game becomes very crucial for us to win in order to keep the pace with Pirates and Sundowns.
It is during times like this when we are faced with a challenge of this magnitude – that brings out the best out of KC and I am confident we are going to be equal to the task once more.
Another interesting feature is the Jabu Pule factor – This is the first time that Jabu Pule plays against Kaizer Chiefs.
16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence and Children Abuse
Today begins the 16 days of Activism against Gender violence and children abuse. Kaizer Chiefs are great supporters of this initiative and we urge all our supporters, followers and fans to rally behind this project and give it all your support.
World Aids Day
December 1 is World Aids Day and once again Kaizer Chiefs are vigourously involved with Aids Awareness Projects. We are supporting the Khomanani Project, which is the government-led communication campaign on Aids under the Department of Health.
The Team has been involved in many projects and I ask you to support an Aids awareness campaign to help the people of South Africa in all of our communities.
Trip to London
Part of my trip to London last week was to visit the stadium project at the new Wembley and the new Emirates Stadium.
I was thrilled to see the new Emirates Stadium that is to be the new home of the Arsenal Football club, which is supposed to be ready in May 2006.
What was particularly interesting is the fact that the design of the stadium and a lot of other features of the stadium – there are similarities of the project that Kaizer Chiefs are about to embark on at Mogale City.
Both Wembley and the Emirate stadia are going to be state of the art.
Bafana Bafana
As was expected, and as was the case after 1998 – Bafana Bafana will have a new coach for the African Cup of Nations.
The appointment of Ted Dimitru was not unexpected, however it was the most logical thing to do after the resignation of Stuart Baxter.
I would like to congratulate Ted for his appointment and also to congratulate Pitso Mosimane for his appointment as well. As an interim measure it is O.K. for Ted but I have a different view with regard to a long-term appointment.
I think Ted should have been appointed National coach 6 – 8 years ago. I do not think it will be wise for Ted to look beyond the African Cup of Nations.
The only thing that needs to be answered is why he was not elected coach in the past years, but I do believe that he has a role to play in the Technical committee going forward.
I also do believe that Lucas Radebe has a role to play in the national team but his role is much bigger than that of assistant coach.
