The annual pre-season four team one day curtain raiser The Telkom Charity Cup will be moving back to Johannesburg after a three year absence from Soccer City while the stadium underwent renovations for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

It was announced at a press function on Thursday afternoon held to launch the 2010 edition that Soccer City the venue for Sunday’s FIFA World Cup Final will play host to the day long football spectacle on the 7th August. Once again the proceeds from the competition will be going to charity and teams will be selected to participate at the event based on the number of votes they garner up on the dedicated phone lines as well as through the SMS vote in system.

Kaizer Chiefs director of communications who attended the function held in Illovo Northern Johannesburg has urged Chiefs fans to vote for The Amakhosi and ensure that they qualify for the tournament. “Remember every vote counts towards assisting various charity projects and the teams that participate can make donations to charities of their choice as well” added Mohatle before going on to say.

“From a football point of view the Charity Cup puts the team in the right frame of mind and gears them up for the season ahead which kick’s off soon after and this year’s event is historically important as it is the first one back at the brand new Soccer City”.

Amakhosi prominent fan Saddam Maake who was also in attendance at the event on Thursday is urging Chiefs fans to cast their vote so that the club will be able to participate at the 2010 Charity Cup and is hope is that they can lift the trophy on August 7.

“Let us demonstrate our passion and support for Chiefs by casting our votes for the team, Soccer City is our stadium we have won many games there in the past as a fan I will do whatever I can to ensure that we play there in the Telkom Charity Cup. Once we there hopefully the guys will do their part and take us to glory”.

Tickets for the 2010 Telkom Charity Cup will go on sale around South Africa on the 19th July at Computicket and other outlets there are various categories of tickets available which include reserved seats and a family stand.

Mohatle has welcomed the idea of a designated seating area for families and applauded the idea saying, “it is a good move to have this space set up for people with children so that our younger fans can get to attend the games as well and share in the fun and excitement. The information we have is that there will be special activities in this area for the young ones to enjoy”.
