The speedy winger who has been somewhat of a revelation in the left back role since joining Chiefs in the off season from Maritzburg City, wants nothing more than to help Chiefs put one over Pirates and get back at them for rolling The Amakhosi out of the Vodacom Challenge a week ago.
With Chiefs close to winding off their pre-season campaign Bhasera believes that he and the rest of the squad are only focused on securing the Telkom Charity Cup, and anything less than lifting the Cup on Saturday evening in Mmabatho will be deemed a failure.
Bhasera is looking forward towards spearheading a change in Chiefs pre – season fortunes, which has seen The Amakhosi lose on penalty kicks to Black Leopards in the Limpopo Challenge Final. That loss was followed up by a 2-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspurs in Durban and last Thursday Chiefs lost their Vodacom Challenge Play off match by a goal to nil to Pirates in Port Elizabeth.
Looking the part
Bhasera used the opportunity afforded to him in his Chiefs first two pre-season games to show that he was not at Chiefs to slouch around, the young Zimbabwean international looked a natural in the left back position and has gone some way towards answering the questions which have hung over who will fill that role in the past.
While he impressed against Leopards and continued with his impressive start to his Chiefs career, with a man of the match nomination against Spurs where he set up a goal for Shaun Bartlett and came close to scoring a goal against the Premier League team.
Bhasera is of the opinion that he needs to continue laboring hard as the new season approaches.
“The coach has allowed me to play my natural game which is in the left back slot and that has allowed for me to fit in easily into the team. I have spoken to the coach over the past couple of days and in consultation with him I do believe that there are aspects of my game that I need to improve, the idea is to build on the areas where I am weaker and go from strength to strength in those departments where I have been doing well”.
No Pirates repeat
While Bhasera’s first two games in a Chiefs jersey saw him impress the watching public and the media, he was not all together happy with the display he put on against Pirates in Port Elizabeth. The hard working left back is hoping to rewrite the history books with a more accomplished performance against Pirates on Saturday.
“I think against Pirates I was some what off the boil but I have had a couple of days to think about what went wrong this past Thursday. What I can say to the Chiefs fans is that there will be no happy ending for Pirates this weekend, as a team we are ready to fight them all the way and our focus is on winning the Charity Cup”.
Must win
As Chiefs prepare for their second outing against Pirates in just over a week, Bhasera is well aware of the weight of expectation on the team and believes that the team will be able to deliver to their fans who expect nothing less than a win every time Chiefs take to the field especially against Pirates.
Having had the opportunity to have played in one Soweto Derby so early in his Chiefs career, Bhasera is looking forward to his second outing against Pirates; in what he has described as a must-win game.
“There is a lot of pride at stake when Chiefs meet Pirates and having played in my first derby last week I have a better idea of what this game means to many fans around the country, we will be aiming to send our supporters home on Saturday evening with a lot to cheer about. Victory against Pirates and over all in the Charity Cup will be just what the doctor ordered as it will give us a boost with the opening game of the new season just a couple of days away”.
