Kaizer Chiefs’ Under-19s side won their last game in this season’s SAB League, Johannesburg Region. The youngsters beat Pimville Young Stars 3-1 at the Village on Thursday afternoon.
Amakhosi finished the SAB League in third spot, having gained 63 points from 30 matches. They are on equal points with BidBoys, but Bidvest Wits’ junior team got second position due to a better goal difference.
“We can look back on a competitive season,” Chiefs’ Under-19s coach Sundra Govinder reflects on the season. “We had a young squad with a few of our players being only 16 or 17-year-old. Another tricky issue for some of the guys was the transition back to the SAB League after having played in the MultiChoice Diski Challenge this season. It was all a good learning curve.”
Amakhosi’s Under-19s team has some promising talents, including centre-back Tristan Moses, defensive midfielder Thato Khiba, attacking midfielder Tshepo Mohlala, right winger Lebohang Lesako and goalkeeper Sandile Ngobese.
The skilful midfielder Nkosingiphile Ngcobo has already been called up for Amajita and against Pimville Young Stars, left-back Siphosake Ntiya-Ntiya excelled, running up and down the flank and delivering some good crosses into the box.
Yaseen Bunting scored twice against the side from Pimville, while Waylan Rooi added a third.
Bunting has been a phenomenon up-front, scoring 23 times in the 22 games that he played this season in the SAB League. In total, Chiefs’ Under-19s scored 81 goals.
