Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport United played to a 1-1 draw in an Absa Premiership match at FNB Stadium on Wednesday evening. Matsatsantsa got the lead in the 30th minute, but Amakhosi equalised already a minute later thanks to George Lebese.

Tsepo Masilela, Edmore Chirambadare and Lebese all came into the starting compared to the 2-1 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns last weekend.

Heavy rain just before kick-off resulted in the pitch being very slippery. It meant that it was not easy to string a few passes together for both sides.

The home side started a bit nervous, but got better the more the game progressed.

The first real threatening attempt at goal arrived in the 15th minute when former Amakhosi Reneilwe Letsholonyane powered a shot at goal, but the ball flew over the sidebar.

Thereafter there was an opportunity for Michelle Katsvairo, but he failed to hit the target.

The game was flowing up and down. Eventually, it was SuperSport that got the opening goal in the 30th minute when Thabo Mnyamane put the ball past goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune, who had no chance to make a save. The ball flew high into the top corner of the goal from close range.

Chiefs, however, quickly recovered from the set-back, as barely a minute later the ball was in the back of the net of Matsatsantsa’s goal. Lebese finished beautifully from inside the box after a fine assist by Chirambadare, who put the ball unselfishly sideways. It was Lebese’s third league goal of the season.

From that moment the Glamour Boys were on song, creating several good opportunities. There was a shot on goal from, again, Lebese, while other chances came for George Maluleka and Willard Katsande. SuperSport goalkeeper Reyaad Pieterse, however, made some excellent saves.

Amakhosi dominated the last 15 minutes of the first half and were unlucky not to go into the break in front.

The home side continued to be the better side in the second half with Maluleka playing excellently in midfield, while Siphiwe Tshabalala was competitive in the role behind the striker.

SuperSport, on the other hand, were never really out of the game and looked dangerous whenever having a set-piece.

In the end, no more goals were scored. Amakhosi might find themselves somewhat unlucky not to have gone home with the three points.
