Kaizer Chiefs will go in search of a record-extending 14th Nedbank Cup title by kicking off the 2022 Nedbank Cup with a home tie against fellow DStv Premiership rivals TS Galaxy. This as Amakhosi look to put behind them a loss to Galaxy in the 2019 final.
Chiefs utility player Happy Mashiane is eager for Amakhosi to get their campaign going in the Nedbank and believes the entire squad has the same desire which is to land the trophy.
“It is our objective to win the Nedbank Cup,” says Mashiane. “We have a challenging draw against TS Galaxy, but we will work hard. We did not do well in the competition last season and we are looking to do better this season.”
Mashiane was referencing Chiefs’ early exit to Richards Bay in the 2020-21 Nedbank Cup, and will be hoping to add another title to Chiefs’ name.
The Club has a romance with the Nedbank Cup stretching back more than half a century with their first title in 1971. Chiefs’ last triumph in the Nedbank Cup was in 2013 and Stuart Baxter was at the helm of Amakhosi. In addition to their 13 wins, Chiefs have been runners up a further 6 times, most recently in 2019.
