Former Kaizer Chiefs defender, Valery Nahayo believes that the Glamour Boys can go all the way and win the Absa Premiership this season.
The Burundian currently plying his trade in Belgium for KAA Gent left Naturena at the end of last season; “The guys were very unlucky not to win something between August and December last year but I am sure their fortunes will change this year,” he said speaking to kaizerchiefs.com from Gent.
“Chiefs have a good squad, a mixture of young and experienced players. Players like Tinashe (Nengomasha) who have won the league with the Club are still there and the set up at Naturena allows the players to concentrate on winning trophies. This could be their season.
Nahayo admitted that he is missing life in South Africa; “I spent seven years in South Africa and it will always feel like home to me. I keep in touch with the likes of Bongi Macala, my boy Mandla Masango, Tinashe Nengomasha, Thomas Sweswe, Jonathan Quartey even Knowledge Musona. I follow the team on the internet and Facebook page.
“I am forever grateful to Kaizer Chiefs for giving me a platform to further my career in Europe. The Club looked after me while I was in South Africa and all I know about professionalism I learnt it from Chiefs.
Chiefs are far ahead in terms of professionalism and even in this league few teams come close to what Chiefs has. I would like one day to come sit on the stands and cheer the guys. Hopefully if all goes well I can do that before the end of this season if we finish early.
The towering defender revealed that he is pleased with his stay in Belgium; “I struggled when I arrived here but now I am settled and getting used to the surroundings. The team is doing well. Currently we are second on the log and our aim is to qualify for the Champions League.
His last message to the fans; “I want thank the fans for their support and the way they welcome me when I arrived in the team. I will never forget that kind of experience they provided at matches. They are a ‘12th men’ on the pitch and their support will be crucial at this stage of the season,” added Nahayo.
