The Glamour Boys have started 2009 on a high note winning four, drawing one and losing one game this despite starting slowly at the beginning of the season.
“Yes, this team can win the league,” replied Shongwe confidently when kaizerchiefs.com posed the question to him about the Club’s credibility to win the Championship.
“We have a very strong team in all departments. In the goalkeeping department, which is crucial, we have two of the best goalkeepers in the country in Itumeleng Khune and Emille Baron. It looks like the coach has sorted out concerns at the back and we have been defending well thus far. The guys all look focus and hungry to win each and every game,” added Shongwe.
“We cannot afford to drop points at this stage of the season...every game is important. The guys do not need any motivation. They just need to go to the field and die for the Club and the coach.
I remember during our days, we did not really need a coach to do a lot of work at this stage of the season. We would take responsibility as players and fight until the final whistle. This team has character and we believe in them,” said Mofokeng who captained the Club for almost a decade.
Shongwe who joined the team together with his brother William in 1986 told kaizerchiefs.com that the title might be decided in the next five games.
“There are ten games to be played but, the first five games starting with AmaZulu will be very important. The team needs to be consistent and the guys need to believe in themselves just like we do,” he concluded.
