Kaizer Chiefs 0
Chippa United 0
Kaizer Chiefs and Chippa United played to a goalless draw in an Absa Premiership match on Saturday evening at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium.
There was a strange quietness in the stadium as the game was played behind closed doors.
Siyabonga Ngezana was back from his one-game suspension and partnered Mario Booysen in the centre of defence, while George Maluleka came back into the team to be on Willard Katsande’s side. Hendrick Ekstein also started, with the goal of giving some offensive impulses.
Chiefs took the game to the visitors early on, trying to get an early goal.
Khama Billiat looked lively, while Maluleka worked hard in midfield. On the other hand, Chippa did attack with venom a few times, but Itumeleng Khune was always alert.
The half-hour mark came without too many real goalscoring opportunities for either side, even though Amakhosi looked more likely to find the back of the net first.
The break arrived with no goals being scored.
Coach Giovanni Solinas had to make a change at the start of the second half, bringing on Daniel Cardoso for Booysen, who had picked up a hamstring injury.
The visitors played a bit more positive and with more intent in the second half, which resulted in a few chances, which needed a few good saves from Khune.
There was another substitution in the 62nd minute when Dumsani Zuma came on for Philani Zulu.
Amakhosi tried to push to get the much needed winner, although Chippa also had their opportunities to score.
The final change coach Solinas made, was to bring on striker Ryan Moon for Ekstein, going all out to attack and get the much-needed goal.
In the end, the game ended with no goals scored.
Most Valuable Player (MVP):
Khama Billiat and George Maluleka started the game well, although they faded a bit the longer the game went on. Willard Katsande was, as usual, working hard in midfield, winning numerous balls, while Itumeleng Khune again made some crucial saves. Godfrey Walusimbi also had more than a decent game at left-back. However, it was Chippa’s Ruzaigh Gamildien who was selected as the Absa Premiership Man of the Match.
What it means:
It means that Kaizer Chiefs are still in fourth spot on the Absa Premiership log with 18 points from 13 matches.
Kaizer Chiefs 11: Khune; Mphahlele, Ngezana, Booyse (Cardoso 46’), Walusimbi; Ekstein (Moon 81’), Katsande, Maluleka, Zulu (Zuma 62’); Billiat, Castro
