Kaizer Chiefs welcome ASEC Mimosas of Ivory Coast in the Playoffs of the Confederation Cup.

The much-anticipated clash follows the Amakhosi’s exit from the CAF Champions League. Chiefs were knocked out in the 2nd Round of the Champions League by AS Vita Club of DRC.

Coach Baxter said, “We will field a competitive side against ASEC Mimosas on Sunday especially that we will be playing in our own backyard. The game will be tough and will also test our experience in CAF competitions. We will protect our territory.”

Kaizer Chiefs will be competing in the CAF Confederation Cup for the first time; they have previously played in the African Cup Winners Cup and the CAF Cup before they were merged to form the CAF Confederation Cup in 2004. Kaizer Chiefs are the only South African team to have one of the CAF Confederation Cups previous namesakes; they won the 2001 CAF Cup Winners Cup.

Chiefs’ meeting against ASEC is their first in a competitive game against an Ivoirian team or any club from West Africa. Chiefs faced ASEC once previously in a friendly game for third place in the 1999 Vodacom Challenge on July 10 1999, 14 years ago. Chiefs won the game 2-1 with the then 19 year old Jabu Pule scoring the winning goal on his first game for Chiefs. The current Chiefs assistant coach Doctor Khumalo featured in the 1999 Vodacom Challenge game when Chiefs won 2-1 including current Ivory Coast internationals Kolo Toure, Didier Zokora and Aruna Dindane. Chiefs have also faced ASEC'S rivals Africa Sport in a friendly game defeating them 2-0 in the 2000 Vodacom Challenge.

"ASEC is a good team. I think it will be a tightly contested game because we are playing against good opposition in ASEC Mimosas, but we are going to win," said Chiefs’ Ugandan Ivan Bukenya. Bukenya has vowed to the faithful Amakhosi supporters to expect fireworks when two of the best teams in the continent do battle on Easter Sunday.

The much-anticipated clash will take place at Dobsonville Stadium, in Soweto on Easter Sunday, 20th of April 2014. Tickets are R40 for adults and CHILDREN under12 are at R10. TICKETS ARE AVAILABLE at COMPUTICKET/SHOPRITE CHECKERS.

The gates will open at 12:00 and kickoff is billed for 15:00.
