Kaizer Chiefs stretched their winning run in the Absa Premiership to nine consecutive matches as they claimed a 1-0 win over SuperSport United at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Bernard Parker scored the only goal of the game as the defending Champions went 11 points clear at the top of the league table.

Parker was the first to offer any form of an attacking threat at goal when he ran onto a corner kick in the seventh minute and headed the ball just narrowly wide of goal.

SuperSport responded with an attack of their own three minutes later when Dino Ndlovu burst through the midfield. He unleashed a ball to Lebogang Manyama, who supplied to Sameegh Doutie, but he saw his effort blasted over the bar.

It took 15 minutes for the deadlock to be broken through a Parker free-kick. The ball was curled perfectly into the far side of the goals, leaving Ronwen Williams routed to the spot.

Williams prevented the scoreline from changing to 2-0 when he calmly raised a hand to block George Lebese’s shot at the near post just before the half hour mark.

Ndlovu wasted a great chance when he ran in towards the box, but he couldn’t choose which foot to shoot from and wasted the opportunity at testing Itumeleng Khune properly.

Cavin Johnson’s men were then saved by the woodwork in the 31st minute. Morgan Gould launched a long-ball up field and a failed clearance fell to Knowledge Musona, whose shot rattled the upright.

Thato Mokeke concluded the half with his shot from range, but it sailed high over the crossbar as Chiefs went into the break leading 1-0.

At the restart Doutie supplied a threatening cross into the box which forced Khune to rush off his line and clutch it mid-air, while Kgotso Moleko was lucky not to get his second yellow of the evening with his high tackle on Ndlovu.

David Mathebula came on midway through the second-half and fired a shot straight at Khune taken straight down the channel.

Musona was again denied in the 77th minute, and this time by Williams, who went full stretch to punch away a curling effort out for a corner.

Siyabonga Nkosi fired a stinging effort just before the fulltime whistle which curled just over the angular, before Matthew Rusike’s powerful strike was excellently hammered away.

SuperSport ended the game with ten men after Enocent Mkhabela was handed his second yellow for getting involved in a player scuffle.

Moleko was eventually shown his second yellow in the eighth minute of stoppage time for another heavy challenge, seeing both teams end with a man less while Chiefs claimed the win.
