The 20th Telkom Charity Cup will be staged at Soccer City, Amakhosi’s home ground, on July 30 and only the four “most popular” teams get to partake in the one-day soccer carnival.
Amakhosi, now sitting on 36178 votes, occupied the fourth spot for two days and Pirates supporters staged a late surge on Wednesday to take their club back to winning qualifying range with 37853 votes. The challenge is not on Amakhosi to start, or continue dialling 086 22 33 807 until the closing date on July 22.
Meanwhile, Mamelodi Sundowns supporters also rallied behind their club to push it back to first position with 49867 votes. Bloemfontein Celtic are second (48474) and Black Leopards third (43592).
The aim of the tournament is to raise as much money for charity as possible. Monies collected from the telephone voting and gate fees will be combined. Over R2.7 million was raised from last year's Telkom Charity Cup and has been paid out to 50 charity organisations during February 2005.
