Kaizer Chiefs got their second round of the season off to a flying start with a 1-0 win over 10-man Santos at Nelson Mandela Stadium on Friday night.

Man of the Match, Reneilwe Letsholonyane who is currently enjoying a good run of form scored the only goal of the match in the 62nd minute.

The win ensured that the Glamour Boys kept their unbeaten record at Nelson Mandela Stadium and ended Santos winning eleven match unbeaten run.

The game started slowly with both sides knocking the ball around but it was Chiefs who threatened most in the opening minutes of the game with livewire, Knowledge Musona creating lot of problems for the opposition defence.

It was Musona’s superb pass that found Josta Dladla in the edge of the 18-area box but the no. 9 had one too many touches allowing Santos to clear the danger. Then on the other side of the field Tyrene Arendse watched his strike going wide of Arthur Bartman’s goals that had been given a nod ahead of fully recovered Itumeleng Khune who watched the proceedings from the bench.

The 37-year-old justified his inclusion in the starting line up with two superb save denying Graham King in the 39th and 81st minute.

The game came alive in the second half following the introduction of Abia Nale in a place of Siphiwe Tshabalala. The Vaal-born midfielder made an immediate impact setting up for Letsholonyane to score from close range sending the 13 000 spectators to a frenzy.

Santos tried hard to break Chiefs wall but could not found a way through, when they managed to beat the back four they found Arthur Bartman in an uncompromising mood thwarting every move.

There was controversy in the 85th minute of the game as Santos appeared to have scored an equaliser but referee; Harry Lekitlane had other ideas ruling the goal out to the frustration of Santos bench.

It was a second win in a row for Amakhosi who will welcome log leaders, SuperSport United at Loftus Stadium on Wednesday, 25 November 2009.
