Kaizer Chiefs will face ABC Motsepe league side, Buya Msuthu in the semi-finals of the Bokone Bophirima Maize Cup at James Motlatsi Stadium in Klerksdorp on Saturday, 14 July (kick-off at 10:00). The other semi-final is between Chippa United and Free State Stars, which will start at 12:00.
It will be Amakhosi’s first official pre-season friendly. Football Manager Bobby Motaung points out that the team is ready, while adding that “soccer unites. So let’s get together. We want love and passion at the Maize Cup.”
The cup competition started in 2015 with the Glamour Boys joining the action for the first time last year. Chiefs went on to win the Maize Cup after beating Free State Stars 1-0 in the final, thanks to a goal from George Lebese. Amakhosi had beaten Botswana’s Township Rollers 2-0 in the semis thanks to a brace from Gustavo Páez.
Buya Msuthu is the former side of Chiefs’ new recruit, left-back Letlhogonolo Mirwa. The Maize Cup will also be an opportunity to see Khama Billiat in action for the first time wearing the Gold & Black jersey.
The winners of the semi-final matches will meet each other in the final, which will take place at 16:00.
Tickets for the Maize Cup are available at Computicket and Shoprite/Checkers at R40 for adults.
