African Wanderers shot down the high flying Kaizer Chiefs 2-1 in a Premier Soccer League clash at Olympia Park in Rustenburg on Sunday to ease their relegation woes.

National under-23 star midfielder Thabiso Malatsi was given a rare start while Shaun Permall and Kabamba Musasa led the attack.

Chiefs went into the game hoping to build on the dominance they exhibited when beating Moroka Swallows 4-2 during the week.

Unfortunately it was not to be and Wanderers destroyed any chance the Amakhosi had of climbing further up the PSL log.

Overall, it was an exciting weekend in the Castle Premiership, as the lead at the top of the table changed three times in the challenge for league honours.

At the same time, however, the relegation battle continued to rage, as Wanderers, Black Leopards and Hellenic all picked up maximum points to squeeze the bottom clubs closer together.

However, Wanderers' win was the biggest shock of the weekend as goals from Mdu Madlala and Mduduzi Mthembu saw the Durban club take all three points. Kabamba Musasa scored for Chiefs.

After Leopards and Hellenic had won, only the most optimistic Wanderers supporter would have bet on their team staying in the hunt.

The away result will have boosted the confidence Khabo Zondo's charges with important fixtures in the weeks ahead.
