Kaizer Chiefs fans in the Western Cape demonstrated their love and compassion by digging deep into their own pockets and buying a new bungalow for the 11-year-old Olona Ngqonga who is a die-hard card carrying member of the Club.
The Amakhosi fans were touched by the plight of the young boy and his mother who were living in dire conditions as member of Site C Branch, Ncedisa Ngcukuva explained to kaizerchiefs.com on Tuesday morning; “I first met Olona (Ngqonga) back in 2010 when he started attending branch meetings and some of our activations. One thing I noticed about him was the love for the Club.
We first registered him as a card carrying member. I then approached my fellow Khosi supporters for us to take the boy with to Johannesburg for the Carling Black Label Cup towards the end of July. He was very excited to travel to Johannesburg where he was able to tour the Club’s headquarters.
“I had noticed that there was something wrong with him although he was not saying much. I then decided to share a room with him before the night of the game. He opened up about his situation. We then decided to visit his home. We were shocked to find the shack he shared with his mother who works occasionally at the farms.
“We asked someone to take pictures of the shack in their absence. We showed the pictures to fellow Amakhosi who were touched by the situation. We had to do something about it and eventually bought a bungalow for them,” continued an emotional Ngcukuva.
The next step was for the supporters to demolish the old shack and replaced it with a much more improved spacious bungalow for the football crazy, Olona who has already won couple of medals at school.
Corporate Communication Manager Vina Maphosa paid a glowing tribute to the Amakhosi fans for such a noble initiative and invited Amakhosi supporters to inform the Club when they identify the need for interventions. “The Club through Marketing Division has a dedicated CSI Programme and encourages collaboration with Branches to effect positive change in the communities.
Our Executive Chairman, Kaizer Motaung was moved by this initiative and certainly this will go a long way in inspiring more branches and individuals to cooperate with the Club’ CSI Programme to engage in this kind of forward thinking initiatives,” added Maphosa.
