Chiefs and their opponents this Sunday in the SAA Supa8 semi finals, did have a meeting of sorts when Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp, Captain Cyril Nzama and team manager Bobby Motaung came up against their counterparts from Swallows on Friday.
Although it was in the calm of the Kaizer Chiefs team recreation room at Chiefs Durban hotel, in the form of a press conference both teams made it clear that they nothing less than victory will suffice on Sunday.
Addressing the media first Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp said “there is no hiding from the fact that we performed below par against Wits on Wednesday evening, Swallows on Sunday is ahead of us and we will use it to get a confidence boosting victory”.
The Chiefs coach when asked about the teams readiness for the much awaited semi final match up commented “everybody has rallied together to ensure we win on Sunday, the spirit in the team is unbelievable we have never been more ready for a game or more determined to win a match”.
Chiefs captain Cyril Nzama was next to address the media and reiterated his desire to keep up his 100% record of victories in Cup competitions against the Dube birds “for all the while I have been a Chiefs player I have played against Swallows in Cup matches on three occasions.
For me the most important thing is to maintain that statistic and ensure that my number of wins against them in Cup games, resembles that on my jersey” quipped The Amakhosi captain.
The Dube birds who were represented at the press conference by their captain Goodman Mazibuko, added the following on Sunday’s game “we have five former Chiefs players in our team and like the rest of the guys they will be aiming to lift us to a victory over their old colleagues”.
Sunday’s semi – final between Chiefs and Swallows is a repeat of the 2004 SAA Supa8 Semi-Final when the two teams clashed at the ABSA Stadium in Durban, on that occasion Chiefs ran out 1-0 victors thanks to a Collins Mbesuma goal.
Chiefs will be on the prowl for a similar result which will see them through to the final later next month, kick off for the game is at 15h15 on Sunday.
